They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I’ll keep the intro short on this one. It’s always satisfying to look back on another year of adventures, Team Green’s 19th year to be exact, and take some time to think about the people we’ve met and the places we’ve been. To celebrate the year that was, here are our 20 best adventure photos from 2015:
January 17th – We started the year off strong with some beautiful weather for our annual Bald Eagle Day Hike at Land Between the Lakes State Park in Kentucky. We couldn’t get over the way the sun plays off algae in the water to make this stream glow green. So cool!
January 25th – Our first ever Resolution Health & Recreation Fair was a huge success this year, drawing over 300 people to learn about all of our 2015 partner organizations and participate in free workshops designed to help get everyone started on their New Year’s resolutions! This 30-minute yoga class with Kali Yuga Yoga was one of the most popular sessions of the day. You can also join us for our 2016 Resolution Fair, coming up on January 24th!
January 31st – Our intermediate backpacking trip to Frozen Head State Park gave a small group of Team Greeners a great opportunity to escape for a weekend and enjoy the beauty of the late winter forest.
February 28th – Warm air temperatures, sunny weather, and a little lingering snow on the ground made for ideal backpacking conditions during our late-February trip to Laurel-Snow falls.
April 8th – Light crowds and mild temperatures provided us with a great spring skiing getaway this year in Vail. 25 Team Greeners had a blast enjoying the endless slopes, the delicious restaurants, and the relaxing hotel hot tub for arguably our best long weekend trek of the year. I guess the view from the top of the mountain doesn’t hurt either.
April 29th – As much as we love indoor rock climbing all winter, nothing really compares to taking the adventure outdoors! Our spring climbing trip to King’s Bluff was a great way to ring in the warmer weather and get our summer of adventure started right! Big thanks to Climb Nashville for being such a great long-time climbing partner as well – they rock!
May 3rd – We got a little artsy with this black & white waterfall photo from our early May day hike to Virgin Falls. Spring rains ensured there was plenty of water coming over the falls during one of our favorite annual hikes to this widely-loved Tennessee treasure.
June 7th – The first of three canoe float river cleanups this summer, our trip down the Harpeth River brought together 20 Team Greeners for a beautiful day on the water. We pulled 38 tires and several bags of trash from the river, in addition to a truckload of other debris, for an incredibly successful start to our summer cleanup season!
June 18th – Maybe the most fun addition to Team Green’s 2015 events was the Traveler Beer Company mustache seesaw! This fun contraption made an appearance at several of our adventure socials this year, and provided tons of opportunities for great pictures along the way.
June 22nd – 2015 saw our Yoga in the Park series with Kali Yuga Yoga grow to its biggest ever. We averaged more than 50 yogis in Centennial Park for free yoga every Tuesday this summer, and had roughly 100 people come out for a little relaxation on an especially mild mid-summer evening. We can’t wait to see the event continue to grow into 2016 and beyond!
June 27th – One of our favorite annual events, 2015’s ropes course with Adventureworks didn’t disappoint. Our group took on the high and low ropes challenges, and we caught this cool multi-faceted shot in the process.
July 25th – Blueberry picking at Trace View Farm has become another popular Team Green tradition, with this event getting so popular that we had to hold two sessions this year to get everyone in. You really can’t go wrong with a gallon of freshly-picked, 100% organic blueberries for just $10/pound! The farm, located 45 minutes south of Nashville on the Natchez Trace, is a truly spectacular place and is worth the trip with or without the blueberries.
August 16th – Tires…everywhere! This shot encapsulates our last canoe float of the summer in a nutshell. In just one afternoon of work, our group of 20 pulled a record-setting 51 tires out of the Piney River. Every tire we removed from our local waterways this summer was dutifully recycled by Bridgestone Americas’ Tires4ward program and repurposed into something new!
August 21st – Our last stand up paddleboard session, but first-ever one on the Cumberland River, made for some great shots of the downtown Nashville skyline. We loved working with Nashville Paddle Co. all summer and can’t wait for even more paddling in 2016! We’re even hosting some on-board pool workouts with them this winter, the first of which is coming up on January 23rd.
August 29th – After taking the year off last year, we decided to bring our Ocoee whitewater rafting trip back again this summer. We were excited to get out there, and we think everyone else was too because this weekend getaway filled up more than a month ahead of time. With rapids like the one below, how can you say no?
September 2nd – One of our most unique events in 2015, we brought back our Tweet for the Suite contest to give away box seat tickets to see Cirque du Soleil at Bridgestone Arena earlier this fall. Big thanks to Two Rivers Ford for the generous use of their suite again this year!
September 12th – The Cumberland River Dragon Boat Festival is definitely our favorite annual excuse to get dressed up and get on the water, and it’s for a great cause! The Team Green Giants showed off their team spirit on the downtown waterfront before getting in the boat to compete against more than 35 other teams from around town.
October 3rd – One of Nashville’s newest adventure attractions, SOAR Adventure Tower in Franklin provided us with a truly unique location for our October adventure social. With more than 100 different climbing element spread across 4 levels, including this 2-story high slack line, there’s no shortage of things to experience at SOAR!
October 23rd – We competed in the RAGNAR Relay for the first time ever this year, and had a blast doing it! 12 Team Greeners took on this challenging overnight run from Chattanooga to Nashville, allowing for some cool photo ops, including this early morning sunrise shot of the Tennessee River!
December 12th – A Team Green holiday tradition, we spent an evening forging our own glass ornaments at Franklin Glassblowing Studio, including this unique heart-shaped piece. Nothing says “I love you” at the holidays more than a hand-made sign of affection like this!
